Contemplating the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, Surrounded by Lush Blooms

The Floral Monstrance Collection

I have been daydreaming about this collection for about a year and half, after I drew “Taste and See.” For that illustration, I was inspired to use classic Dutch florals encircling the Eucharist like a monstrance. I imagined it was an ethereal, otherworldly version of the solid gold style. Later on, someone made the connection for me that since so many flowers represent Mary, this ‘floral monstrance’ is a metaphor for Mary as the first vessel for Jesus. And thus the concept behind this collection was born. Thank you for journeying with me as I create this collection and share it with you!

Imagine lush floral monstrances meant to inspire contemplation of the Real Presence of Jesus.

Imagine fresh blooms that represent Mary who was the first vessel for Jesus.

Imagine a collections of drawings that are completely unique and wholly beautiful.

“When the bee has gathered the dew of heaven and the earth’s sweetest nectar from the flowers, it turns it into honey, then hastens to its hive. In the same way, the priest, having taken from the altar the Son of God (who is as the dew from heaven, and true son of Mary, flower of our humanity), gives him to you as delicious food.”
